Why You Need to Drink Tea to Cure Aging. Drink tea to partake of one of the secrets of the ages. Tea has been known as an extraordinary antiaging drink for four thousand years in Asian cultures. Science now says it’s so .

If you literally want to drink from the fountain of youth, drink tea. Tea is an extraordinary drink mainly because it is made from the leaves of Camel/ia sinesis, a warm weather evergreen plant, blessed with mixtures of unique antioxidants that are infused into hot water when you make tea.

Black tea, green tea, oolong tea, the “real thing” not herbal teas can all boost your chances of reaching old age in good shape, according to new research. Drinking antioxidant packed tea promises to delay aging, prolong life and scare off many chronic diseases, including cancer and heart disease.

Although Asian type green tea contains more of particular types of antioxidants, black tea, popular in Western countries, seems equally effective at defusing free radical attacks on cells, thwarting aging. Anything that fights off free radicals not only puts you on the aging slow track, but- ups your chances of living longer. Indeed, tea appears to be a longevity agent.

Two recent studies, one in Norway and one in the Netherlands, both identified tea drinking as insurance against diseases and premature death. The Norwegian government study oftwenty thousand persons found lower death rates among those who drank at least one cup of tea a day.

Similarly, another large scale government dietary analysis of elderly Dutch men found that those drinking a couple of cups of black tea daily were less apt to die of any cause, but particularly of heart disease. Researchers credited antioxidants, called flavonoids, in the diet, citing tea as the main source.

Tea is a chemical soup of numerous antioxidant polyphenols, such as catechins and quercetin, also concentrated in grapes, berries, onions and red wine. Italian researchers have proved that drinking tea peps up antioxidant activity in your blood by about 50 percent.

In a new study, Mauro Serafini at the National Institute of Nutrition in Rome had subjects drink slightly more than a cup of strong tea brewed for two minutes with three teaspoons of either black or green tea leaves. Tests revealed that antioxidant activity in the tea drinkers’ blood soared by 41 to 48 percent within thirty minutes after they drank green tea and fifty minutes after they drank black tea.

After eighty minutes the antioxidant activity in both green and black tea drinkers returned to normal. Another powerful way tea works is to rev up the liver’s all important enzyme detoxification system that rids the body of free radicals and other foreign chemicals that damage cells.

Black and green tea work equally well, according to tests by John Weisburger, Ph.D., of the American Health Foundation. Tea also neutralizes cell destroying nitrosamines, derived from cured meats, and heterocyclic amines (HCAs) formed when meat is cooked. That means drinking tea at the same time as eating meat may defuse some of the danger.
